چکیده
Abstract-In this work, cut-off frequencies of propagation of electromagnetic waves in a hexagonal waveguide are calculated using twodimensional (2-D) finite element method. The numerical approach is a standard one and involves six finite elements. A new type of hexagonal waveguide structure for the simple homogeneous dielectric case has been considered. The starting point is Maxwell’s equations in conjunction to the exponential dependence of the fields on the Zcoordinates. For the homogeneous case, it results in the Helmholtz equations. Finally, finite element method has been used to derive approximate values of the possible propagation constant for each frequency.

A Dual-Frequency Metallic Waveguide System
Conventional metallic waveguides have several major advantages, including low propagation losses and high power transmissions in the microwave frequency range. One disadvantage of metallic waveguides is that the propagation frequency band is limited at frequencies above the cutoff frequency fc. The usable frequency range is therefore restricted to fc < f < 2fc, because the TE20 mode can exist i...
متن کاملHigh Speed Terahertz Modulator on the Chip Based on Tunable Terahertz Slot Waveguide
This paper presents an on-chip device that can perform gigahertz-rate amplitude modulation and switching of broadband terahertz electromagnetic waves. The operation of the device is based on the interaction of confined THz waves in a novel slot waveguide with an electronically tunable two dimensional electron gas (2DEG) that controls the loss of the THz wave propagating through this waveguide. ...
متن کاملExact analytical approach for free longitudinal vibration of nanorods based on nonlocal elasticity theory from wave standpoint
In this paper, free longitudinal vibration of nanorods is investigated from the wave viewpoint. The Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory is used for nanorods modelling. Wave propagation in a medium has a similar formulation as vibrations and thus, it can be used to describe the vibration behavior. Boundaries reflect the propagating waves after incident. Firstly, the governing quation of nanoro...
متن کاملModal Phenomena in the Natural Electromagnetic Spectrum Below 5 kHz
This paper presents new measurements of the magnetic field component of naturally–produced electromagnetic radiation in the ELF/VLF range. The measurements are compared to calculations based on modal propagation theory. The nocturnal spectrum below 5 kHz often contains a sharp increase in spectral level at the cutoff frequency of the first mode (∼1700 Hz), and a distinct variation of the spectr...
متن کاملMethod to determine cutoff frequencies for acoustic waves propagating in nonisothermal media.
A method to determine cutoff frequencies for linear acoustic waves propagating in nonisothermal media is introduced. The developed method is based on wave variable transformations that lead to Klein-Gordon equations, and the oscillation theorem is applied to obtain the turning point frequencies. Physical arguments are used to justify the choice of the largest turning point frequency as the cuto...
